They’re nothing like a good cup of tea!
Did you know it’s not only delicious, but it can also help heal your body and settle your mind? In the Summer, this means using herbs that are in season during this time of year and offer a pleasant refreshing taste. Here are some summer herbal teas to try out.
Chamomile is another healing herb that can be found year-round but is often more popular in the summer months. The best way to get the most nutrients is to use the dried chamomile herb blossoms and boil them in water. Chamomile is not only delicious, but it also has relaxing properties and can help you sleep.
Rose
Rose is a perennial plant with delicious, beautiful, and healing herbs. The rosehip tea uses the hips of a rose plant, which has more of a fruity flavor, but you can get rose tea as well. Rose is excellent when used alone, but you can also mix it with other types of tea leaves like hibiscus or chamomile.
Hibiscus
The tea leaves from the hibiscus flower create a darker red color of tea and taste very similar to cranberries. It is a lovely fruity tea for the Summer, whether you have it alone or get a flavored version like strawberry or apple. Make yourself a nice hot cup of hibiscus tea, or on a hot summer day, go for an iced version.
Lemon Verbena
This glossy leaved herb has little white flowers that bloom from mid to late Summer. Its earthy, light and sweet flavor is a delicious change of pace from heavier teas. Its purported health benefits range from boosting the immune system and calming the stomach to soothing nerves and relieving congestion.
Lemon verbena, studied for its appetite suppressant capabilities, appears to affect certain hormones that curb appetite. The following fact might surprise you; athletes are turning to lemon verbena as an exercise supplement to help decrease damage done to the muscles during workouts without inhibiting their body’s development of additional muscle mass and increased stamina.
Mint
There are many varieties of mints, such as peppermint and spearmint, that all have a very fresh and crisp flavor that is quite refreshing. It is also full of nutrients, is an excellent vitamin A source, and a potent source of antioxidants compared to other herbs and spices.
These beautiful and tasty herbs were put here for our enjoyment and, as it turns out, our health! Tea is a beverage we can feel good about drinking!
